Black Mask …and you think your job is rough!

hat was another great episode of Gotham this week, huh?  “The Mask”.  Those not familiar with comic books might not realize the villain’s name was Black Mask.  Black Mask is Roman Sionis and his first appearance was in Batman #386 (August 1985).  Roman Sionis was born to wealthy, self-absorbed parents who cared about public perception more than their own son.  Roman’s parents became friends with Thomas and Martha Wayne, not out of feeling of friendship, but to further their position in high society.  Roman would go on to a high level position in his father’s company, Janus Cosmetics...

Harvey Bullock: Good Cop or Rogue Maverick?

Spirit of the Goat.  That was great episode of Gotham.  Especially the flashback of Harvey Bullock.  It also gave me the inspiration for this week’s blog.  Harvey Bullock first appeared in Batman #361 (July 1983).  In the beginning, Bullock is a corrupt police detective who tries to sabotage Commissioner Gordon’s career under orders from then mayor, Hamilton Hill.  Bullock pretends to always be very clumsy and “accidentally” ruin whatever Gordon is trying to do at the time...

Jason Todd (Red headed stepchild or just #2?)

This week focus is on Jason Todd, the second Robin.  Jason first appeared in Batman #357 (March 1983).  At this point, he had an identical origin to Dick Grayson.  Jason was the son of circus acrobats that were killed by a criminal seeking protection money.  The red haired boy was taken in and trained by Batman, then decided to dye his hair black so the public would assume he was the first Robin.  Jason did not
