"Leland, the time has come for you to seek the path. Your soul has set you face to face with a clear light, and you are now about to experience it in its reality. Wherein all things are like the void and cloudless sky, and the naked spotless intellect is like a transparent vacuum, without circumference or center. Leland, in this moment, know yourself and abide in that state. Look to the light, Leland. Find the light. Into the light…"
-- Special Agent Dale Cooper to Leland Palmer, Twin Peaks: "Arbitrary Law"
It is happening again...My co-host with the most Xan Sprouse and I are back with a new episode of Ghostwood: The Twin Peaks Podcast! This time, we celebrate our big 50th episode as we watch "Arbitrary Law," the ninth episode from Twin Peaks Season Two in 1990, featuring a return to Mrs. Tremond’s apartment, Catherine visiting Ben in jail as Mr. Tojamura, and the tragic conclusion of the “Who Killed Laura Palmer?” mystery!
LET'S ROCK!
In our special 50th episode, Xan and I discuss things like sharing our love of Twin Peaks with fans all over the world, Xan tempting me with a midnight movie theater screening of Eraserhead, Xan's dental hygienist confusing Eraserhead with Eraser, wondering why Eraserhead isn't a young person phenomenon like The Golden Girls, discussing "Arbitrary Law" over Thanksgiving dinner, David Lynch not directing the finale of the "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" mystery, James Marshall in A Few Good Men, Xan not being attracted to Michael Ontkean, the Double R Diner looking weird with tablecloths, Andy practicing his French, the other Mrs. Tremond, modern Kyle MacLachlan trying to look better than his younger self in makeup, Doc Hayward watching Mike talking to Cooper, Leland planning to frame Ben with stuffed white fox fur, Lucy being turned on by Andy's assertiveness, Catherine revealing to Ben that she's alive, our favorite Better Off Dead characters, Ben being turned on by racist cross dressing, that awkward moment when Donna reveals to BOB/Leland that she knows about Laura's secret diary, Leland's orange lemonade, Ray Wise deserving a retroactive Emmy award, Donna being saved by the bell (twice!), Cooper bringing in suspects for his big Hercule Poirot scene in the Roadhouse, finally getting the payoff for "That gum you like is going to come back in style", Cooper giving the big thumbs up, the big fakeout to lock BOB in the interrogation room, Ray Wise's BOB voice, Cooper explaining how everything the audience watched led to the revelation, Leland's tragic death scene, Harry wondering where BOB is, armchair quarterbacking what if David Lynch directed instead of Tim Hunter, Sherilyn Fenn on The Magicians, James making really bad decisions, The Adventures of Danger Horse, never discussing Twin Peaks with my parents, paying tribute to Dick Miller and Julie Adams, and more!
Be sure to come back in two weeks for Episode 051, as Xan and I discuss "The James Hurley Saga" from Twin Peaks Season 2! Look for more of Ghostwood: The Twin Peaks Podcast on iTunes, YouTube, Libsyn, and the official Southgate Media Group website!
