SUPERMAN & LOIS Gets Series Order from The CW

The Man of Steel and The World's Greatest Reporter are back on TV!

Deadline is reporting that The CW has given a straight-to-series order for Superman & Lois, an upcoming DC Comics Arrowverse drama starring Tyler Hoechlin as Superman/Clark Kent and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane.  The series is expected to begin airing sometime during the 2020-21 TV season.

The series was first announced in the works back in October, with the pickup given in lieu of a pilot order, after the pilot script had been receiving strong early buzz.

It remains unclear how this pickup will affect Green Arrow and the Canaries, the proposed Arrow spinoff series starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy reprising their roles.  According to the article, The CW may go with one new DC series for next year but a final decision will be made after the network executives review all their pilots.

Here's the official description for the new series:

SUPERMAN & LOIS stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the world’s most famous Super Hero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch have already appeared as these iconic characters in multiple episodes of The CW’s DC Super Hero series, including this season’s Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover event, which concludes tonight. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, “SUPERMAN & LOIS” is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (“The Flash”) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Hoechlin, 32, made his Arrowverse debut as Superman in the 2016 Supergirl episode "The Adventures of Supergirl".  He's also known as Derek Hale on the MTV series Teen Wolf and also appeared in the films Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed, Everybody Wants Some!!, Solstice, and Road to Perdition.  In addition, he's appeared on episodes of the TV series Castle, Lincoln Heights, CSI: Miami, and 7th Heaven.

Tulloch, 38, made her Arrowverse debut as Lois Lane in the 2018 The Flash episode "Elseworlds, Part 1".  She's also known as Juliette Silverton/Eve on the NBC series Grimm, has appeared in the films Concussion and The Artist, and on episodes of Portlandia, Tyranny, Outlaw, Moonlight, House, Cold Case, and The West Wing.

Hoechlin's Superman and Tulloch's Lois Lane are currently appearing in the CW Arrowverse crossover event, "Crisis on Infinite Earths", which concludes tonight with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
