NEXT STOP EVERYWHERE 183: "The War Machines" Is Up!

"Doc-tor Who is re-quired!  Bring him here!"
-- WOTAN, Doctor Who: "The War Machines"

Hello again, everyone!  We're back with another new episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast!  This time, my partner in time Jesse Jackson and I are joined by special guest companion DJ Nik to discuss "The War Machines", the tenth serial from Doctor Who Season 3 in 1966, featuring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, the departure of Jackie Lane as Dodo Chaplet, and the introductions of Michael Craze as Ben Jackson and Anneke Wills as Polly Wright!

In this episode, Jesse, Nik and I discuss things like wanting everyone to encourage my wife Lori to come on Next Stop Everywhere so we can discuss "The Girl in the Fireplace", Nik discussing Superman III, an update on how Nik is coping with coronavirus in Italy, Polly being Nik's favorite Classic Who companion, Jesse's two things to be successful in podcasting, how I plan our episode schedule, how Cybermen co-creator Kit Pedler got hired as a science advisor on Doctor Who, Nik taking a dig on England for only winning the World Cup once in 1966, the Doctor passing Dodo off as his secretary, people in the UK referring to the Doctor as "Doctor Who", the First Doctor being a badass, Sir Charles not taking Ben's warning about the War Machines seriously because of his age, Ben and Polly's introduction in Swinging '60s London, comparing Ben to Jamie, Polly being a great character when she's not written to fetch coffee for everyone, WOTAN's connection to World War II, what the War Machines' gas spray actually did, wondering why the military didn't bring in tanks to fight the War Machines, artificial intelligence stories before the term was even coined, the awkward moment when Polly gets accosted by a jerk in the Inferno nightclub and Ben tells her she shouldn't be encouraging him, my favorite quotes of the episode, my Reverse the Reverse the Polarity segment, Steven Moffat writing the "Pompadour" sequel to "The Girl in the Fireplace" performed by Sophia Myles, being appreciative for the Doctor Who Lockdown events, new feedback from Holly Mac and David K. Proctor, and more!
