2016—The Year of Batman
(Dawn of Justice & Rebirth)
by Phil Perich for the Legends of DC Blog
The last few weeks I’ve had my friends share with you their love of the characters Superman and Wonder Woman in celebration of the movie Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I knew as the big Batman fan I wanted to write his blog entry myself. But what more could I say about the character I haven't said in other blogs, like my previous BatFan Cave Blog? Then I remembered we’ve gotten plenty of Batman news in the last few days so I thought I’d sum up all the movie and comic news for the last few days.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman faced a powerful foe this past weekend. NO, not Lex Luthor or Doomsday, but negativity from the internet. Even in the face of some bad press, DC’s Trinity scored an impressive box office of with $170.1 Million domestic and $420.1 million worldwide. Quite the World’s Finest haul you could say. And not to be outdone, DC Comics announced the details of their Rebirth titles coming this summer, and of course quite a few of them feature Batman.
Batman
After Rebirth, the main Batman books will be written by now DC exclusive author Tom King with artists David Finch and Mikel Janin splitting the artist duties. King’s stories will have a more spy story vibe thanks to his history in counter-terrorism.
Detective Comics
While every other Bat book will start over with a new #1, the one that started the whole Batman legend will return to it’s original numbering, starting after Rebirth with Detective Comics #934. So in a few years we should see this book reach #1000! The story here will revolve around a team consisting of Batman, Batwoman, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, and…Clayface?
All Star Batman
Critically acclaimed writer Scott Snyder will return to the world of Batman to tell more in-continuity stories with help from John Romita JR, Jock, Sean Murphy, and Tula Lotay. The first story will feature Batman and Two-Face hunted by some of the World’s deadliest assassins.
Trinity
While not many details were announced for it, there will be a team up book featuring DC’s Trinity of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. It will be written and drawn by Francis Manapul with additional art by Clay Mann.
WOW! There’s a lot of good stuff with Batman this year! What do you think about these projects? Let me know any of the following ways:

I cohost several Marvel and DC podcasts, two of which are Before the Bat: the Gotham Podcast and World’s Finest, a weekly DC Comics review podcast. I also write another blog, the True Believers Blog where I discuss anything and everything Marvel. All of my blogs, podcasts, and those of many others can be found at www.southgatemediagroup.com.
Until next week, remember, Superman was wrong. The Bat is NOT dead!
