Who is Marvel Comics Wonder Woman?
by Phil Perich for the Nuff Said Universe
While recording a recent Marvel vs. DC Comics podcast with my cohosts Charlie Esser & Lilith Hellfire, the subject of Wonder Woman came up and if she has a true Marvel counterpart. I thought I could name a few possible candidates and YOU could voice YOUR vote.
1.Susan Storm Richards: The first Marvel female superhero of the “modern” age, Sue is the “mother” of her team and family. She is also has some of the most powerful abilities in the Marvel Universe, able to turn herself and others invisible and also to create invisible objects and forcefields.
2.Janet Van Dyne: The first female member of the Avengers (in the comics), This smart, rich, capable woman served proudly on many versions of the team, even leading the Avengers for a time. She’s battled villains like the Absorbing Man and Magneto.
3.Jennifer Walters: Gaining the powers of the Hulk from a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters (aka She-Hulk) definitely can match Wonder Woman strength-wise, but she’s also a powerful woman in other aspects of her life. While not a princess like Wonder Woman, Jen Walters is a practicing attorney.
4. Carol Danvers: Not only was Carol Danvers an accomplished Air Force pilot, she was also head of security at a top secret base when an accident gave her powers similar to those of the alien Kree captain Mar-Vell. Carol went on to use the powers of flight, strength, and energy absorption and discharge first as the hero Ms. Marvel and now as the current Captain Marvel.
5. Jane Foster: The Last candidate on my list is Jane Foster. Those of you not current on Marvel comics are probably saying “The former nurse turned doctor Jane Foster? Thor’s ex-girlfriend?” That’s her, but these days she’s rocking MAJOR power as the current wielder of the Asgardian hammer Mjolnir. As the new version of the Asgardian Thunder God, I think Jane has enough power to go toe to toe with Wonder Woman!
So now it’s up to YOU! I have my one or two favorites from this list, who are YOURS? Who did I miss? Let me know!
