Heroes Return
Are the Marvel & Fox cinematic universes on their way to merging?
by Phil Perich for the True Believers Blog
Fans have been begging the Marvel Cinematic studios and Fox studios to work out a deal for some kind of crossover, especially after Marvel and Sony were able to negotiate Spider-Man’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming jointly produced Spider-Man: Homecoming movie. But just recently it was revealed that Marvel and Fox had already struck a deal of sorts: Marvel allowed Fox to alter the character of Negasonic Teenage Warhead for the Deadpool movie, but in return they got the rights to use a character in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that Fox had originally bought, Ego the Living Planet.
While a small first step, this gives hope and brings us one step closer to a completely unified Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are my thoughts on some things we could see in a complete movie universe.
Avenger Assemble
Of course one of the first things we could see in a unified universe is intermingling of heroes across various teams. One of the most famous instances of this in Marvel Comics was when former X-Men member Hank McCoy aka The Beast joined Earth’s mightiest heroes as a member of the Avengers for many years. Other such instances include Beast’s teammate Wolverine joining the Avengers. Even Spider-Man and members of the Fantastic Four have been Avengers.
Deadpool In Charge
Probably the Fox character most people want to see interact with anyone in the MCU is Deadpool. Can you imagine Wade Wilson interacting with Tony Stark, annoying him as much as Tony annoys other characters with his arrogance. And before he became “Hydra Cap”, Steve Rogers was somewhat of a mentor to Deadpool, offering him friendship, respect and help molding him into a hero on the Avengers Unity Squad.
Fantastic Characters
Not only does Fox have Deadpool and the X-Men to offer, but also the Fantastic Four and their villains. Not only would the Avengers and/or Guardians of the Galaxy get to interact with the FF, but also face off against their foes, including Doctor Doom, Galactus the world eater, and the shape shifting alien Skrulls.
The possibilities are almost endless, so much so that I’m sure I’ve missed many ideas. What would YOU want to see occur in a MCU/Fox crossover? Let me know!
