Silver Sable
(Mercenary or Uniter?)
by Phil Perich for the True Believers Blog
The latest internet rumor out of Fox Studios is that another Spider-Man spin-off movie is in the works. This time the supposed star is anti-hero Silver Sable. Silver, whose real name is Silver Sablinova, is a mercenary and leader of the Wild Pack.
Silver and the Wild Pack hunt down war criminals, super villains, and just about anyone with a high enough bounty on their head. While most of the general public may not be familiar with her, I have a theory Silver may be the connection that could be used to bridge most of the heroes of the MCU, Sony, and maybe even the Fox movies.
Uneasy Allies
While Silver’s first appearance was in Amazing Spider-Man #265 (June 1985) and she has appeared and teamed up with Spider-Man more than any other hero, Silver has interacted with many heroes/anti-heroes in the Marvel Universe, especially after she got her own ongoing series in 1992. Not only would she make an exciting star of her own action movie, she could be the tie that brings together heroes like the MCU’s Captain America, Sony’s Spider-Man, and Fox’s Deadpool.
With Friends like These…
While Silver is not the ruler of her home country of Symkaria, the operations of the Wild Pack drive the economy of the small European country. Such a position affords her the opportunity to meet with powerful world leaders. It was revealed in her series that Silver has an annual diplomatic dinner with the leader of the neighboring nation of Latveria, Victor Von Doom. Their relationship is mysterious and goes back decades. This got me thinking, this could be Silver’s chance to be another bridge. While she is a spin-off of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, and she already has ties to Fox’s villain Dr. Doom. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that she also has had meetings with T’Challa, the Black Panther, ruler of Wakanda in the MCU universe.
The Gloves are Off
Silver has also battled many Marvel villains and heroes. From Venom and Sandman (Sony), to Deadpool (Fox), and Captain America and Daredevil (MCU). She makes the perfect antagonist, since she will battle anyone if the price is right or they stand in the way of her making a profit!
Well that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it (until I’m proven wrong). What do you think? Will Silver bring the fractured live action Marvel Universe back together again? Tell me YOUR thoughts:
