The Girl of Steel is ready to fly.
The Hollywood Reporter has posted official photos from Warner Bros. Television of Melissa Benoist as the DC Comics superhero Supergirl. The costume was designed by three-time Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the uniforms for The CW series Arrow and The Flash.
"In designing Supergirl," said Atwood, "I wanted to embrace the past but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today."
The CBS drama focuses on twenty-four year old Kara Zor-El, who is taken in by the Danvers family at the age of twelve after Kara escaped the planet Krypton's destruction. The Danvers teach Kara to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, which starts her on her journey of heroism.
Production on the pilot began this week in Los Angeles. The series co-stars Mehcad Brooks as James "Jimmy" Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Chyler Leigh as Alexandra "Alex" Danvers. Former Supergirl Helen Slater and former Superman Dean Cain will guest-star in the pilot, presumably as Kara's aunt and uncle, Lara and Jor-El.
Supergirl should debut on CBS sometime this fall.
